New school and new suit
Acadian's transition to MCDS for 6th grade has been seamless. His teachers report that he's doing well in his classes. Most days are quite long with him catching the bus at 7:30 am and arriving home close to 6 pm because he is doing cross country and soccer. He quickly made friends with "the good kids" with whom he mostly hangs but has also befriended some of the less well-behaved ones by playing soccer. He'll be running in the JV XC championship this Tuesday.
Bryce started out his sophomore year by taking wood joinery and turning and is playing piano in the beginning jazz class. So far we have seen a wooden frame, and we are looking forward to the bowl he will produce. He also started a short stories club with a friend where they read and write short stories. Over the course of the water polo season, he improved to become the top scorer on the JV team and was asked to play varsity for the league championships, which just concluded today. The photos are of the the JV team on the last day of their tournament, JV and varsity boys dressed up for Senior Night, and the varsity boys at the league championships, where they placed 6th out of 8 teams. They performed well considering a majority of players have never played before and they have such a small team that there are few substitutes vs. the big public schools that can sub the entire team out during a game. I had to buy Bryce a men's suit and dress shirt because he had outgrown his size 14 suit.
Both boys were out with their friends for Halloween, with Acadian staying at a friend's in Pac Heights, so we didn't even see him until this morning. He and his two friends dressed as guards from Squid Game, which we have not allowed him to watch. Check out their crazy candy haul. Since we didn't have to accompany anyone trick or treating for the first time in 11 years, we hit Trader Joe's and tried out a yummy new Thai restaurant before having to pick up Bryce from a party at his friend's house.
In typical Bryce fashion, he realized he needed a costume a couple days before, so I was pleased to pull out a costume I'd bought Acadian when he was 4. Even though he donned it for the photos at the time, he refused to wear it trick or treating, so I was excited it actually got some use last night!
We had Cara, Carl, Eric, Lucas, and Emma over for dinner tonight. Cara hasn't seen the boys in two years, so when she saw Bryce in the front of the house, she thought she was at the wrong one.
Lastly, Bryce was quoted in the school paper about his CDMX trip!

Love the popcorn costume at different ages!
